In her study on art therapy and psychological research, Andrea Gilroy (2006) has noted a series of correlations that have been made between periods of war and recession and the prevalence of horror and monster movies. The economic crisis in 2008 was even described as an “economic horror movie” (The Times). In Recession Ritual, I and my collaborators attempt to channel the horror of the 2008 economic crisis through voice and body as we perform an improvised score to a series of scenes from horror and monster films.
